Formed by Melyssa Shannon (Vocals), Jonny Woods (Guitar, Vocals), Aaron Black (Guitar) and Matt Killen (Drums) and Carl Gilmore (Bass) In January 2018, Wynona Bleach began after a 12 Date Russian Headline Tour under their former name of R51. Prior to this they played BBC Introducing stages at Reading and Leeds festivals, supported Feeder, and performed on a televised anniversary of the BBC’s Introducing music show in Northern Ireland at a sold out show in the Ulster Hall alongside Therapy? SOAK Villagers and The Divine Comedy.

Wynona Bleach released their Debut Single “Eyes Burning” in January 2018, and an EP titled “Sugar” in late 2018. They supported Alice in Chains on the irish leg of their World Tour in 2019, after which they retreated to an abandoned warehouse in central Portugal, where they recorded their debut album “Moonsoake” with Bill Ryder-Jones in 2019/early 2020. In august 2021 ahead of announcing a release date for “Moonsoake”, they signed a record deal with Fierce Panda Records.

49th & Main
SOFY
for fans of… Barry Can’t Swim, Fred again.., Jamie xx

September 17th, 2023

Hailing from the Irish town of Kilkenny, 49th & Main are an indie-pop duo consisting of producer Ben O’Sullivan and vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Paddy King. The pair first met in school and after growing close, they began working on music together during a particularly warm summer, with O’Sullivan dabbling with acoustics and how to record King’s guitar. “It felt very ‘I don’t know how to do this” O’Sullivan admits, “it turned out so bad we didn’t revisit it again for a few years”. Time passed, and when they both decided to join a group of friends moving to Canada for the summer in 2019, they decided to take with them some recording equipment on the off-chance they’d get some time to experiment. Little did they know that by the time they returned home, they’d have the bones of their debut project.

Over time, the pair have been attracting attention across the industry, including Red Light Management where they quickly joined the impressive global roster. Excitingly, the band recently announced that they have signed a global record deal with independent label Counter Records, an imprint of Ninja Tune, who already house artists such as Bonobo, Bicep, Thundercat, Kelis and Black Country, New Road. On top of that, Paradigm have come on board to support their live journey. “It’s surreal, it hasn’t really hit yet, that this is like a career” the pair laugh at the recent announcements, “but it’s really exciting. It’s really cool and we can’t wait to get started”.

System Exclusive
Hens Bens
Pretty Crime
for fans of… Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Human League

September 15th, 2023

System Exclusive are Ari Blaisdell and Matt Jones – a Pasadena, California duo bearing an armful of mini synths and a pocketful of Tarantino-dusted riffs who make heart-throbbing, capital P pop punch with more than a hint of post-punk.

Blaisdell’s vocals hearken back to open hearted 80’s hitmakers unafraid to quaver in the name of love, and they’re buoyed by Jones’ laser-gridded synth concoctions and heavy hand on the ones and twos. The self-titled debut via Castle Face Records has seen the band invited to perform in many new countries as well as lengthy tours across the USA, the road awaits…

Maybe this is neither here nor there, but when Noah was 7 or 8, his parents put a trumpet in his hands. Maybe it made him love music, taught him to pay attention to sound, to how cardboard rubbed together can become an instrument, how an acoustic sound can be stretched out and turned to near liquid—a thing you could float in— how stacking delay pedals at random can scramble the smoothness of a song and make something known, unknown. The ordinary, cosmic. And maybe that trumpet had nothing to do with it at all. Probably not. It’s hard to know, really, what’s made us who we are now, and anyways, that was years and years ago.

Kohla Romance Album Launch
philomenah

September 9th, 2023

Between the crackles of vinyl and the rummaging of vintage cassette tapes, Kohla crafts a timeless yet futuristic take on classic soul. Turning to legendary 60s artists for initial inspiration, such as Sam Cooke, Etta James and Nat King Cole, she polishes her cinematic production with influence from contemporary house-hold names such as Frank Ocean, Lana Del Rey and FKA twigs. Co-produced by Dave Lloyd of Stillhound, her stories are coloured through a blend of digital and analogue, a vivid illustration of her sepia-tinged memories.

Kohla’s debut album ‘Romance’ has already received critical acclaim from the likes of Wonderland Magazine, who rave reviewed ”Romance’ is a stunning and emotionally powered masterpiece. Kohla is a ground-breaking artist on a path of undeniable success’.

Kohla has also received strong national and international industry support, including live performances on BBC Radio Scotland’s Afternoon Show (including Single of the Week), airplay from BBC Radio Quay Sessions, BBC Introducing in West Yorkshire (Leeds) and BBC Introducing North East (Newcastle), The Herald Newspaper (who cited Kohla ‘An answer to pop misogyny, she sounds both ultra-modern and old-school at the same time. A delight.’ and glowing praise from California’s prestigious Earmilk.

‘Romance’ is released on 8 September, supported by Creative Scotland and Help Musicians.

‘Evocative Jazz Pop’ – Roddy Hart, BBC Radio Scotland’s Quay Sessions

‘Heaven on the airwaves’ – Catrina Rose, BBC Radio Scotland

‘Kohla is stupendously lovely live’ – Nicola Meighan – BBC Radio Scotland
