Bigfoot’s: 10 years, 10 tracks
Bigfoot’s Tea Party are such a staple of the Scottish club community that even if you don’t think you’ve heard of them, it’s likely that you’ve been to one of their parties.
Currently they hold residencies at Sub Club in Glasgow, Farbfernseher in Berlin, regular appearances in Aberdeen as well as Sneaks, and have hosted The Black Madonna, Helena Hauff, Roman Flügel, Palms Trax, Nina Kraviz and plenty more (all before the hype).
This year, they celebrate 10 years of killing it across 4 cities – so ahead of their first round of party proceedings at Sneaks next week, the fellas have selected 10 tracks which sum up a decade of throwing parties.
All hitters, no shitters.
–MMM – Nous Sommes [MMM]
Played by Chris @ Rockness & various others: “If you’ve been to one of our parties you probably saw Chris get pumped up by this… “This makes me feel like I can run through a wall. Gold medal material!”
–Roots Manuva – Witness [Big Dada / Ninja Tune] / The Beatles – Come Together [Apple]
George: “We used to break in to warehouses in Aberdeen, install a sound system, lock the place up again, and take everyone there after the club closed. One of the best ones ended with Wrick playing Witness into Come Together by The Beatles, with everyone singing along. Chris was arrested outside when we were cleaning up…”
–Orbital – Halcyon [Internal/FFRR]>
DJ Smoker @ Sneaky Pete’s: “Played this classic as a last tune at our 8th Birthday in Edinburgh. That was probably the most track ID’s I’ve ever been asked for…”
–Vicky Sue Robinson – Turn The Beat Around [RCA Victor]
Played by Wrick / Lovejoy @ Glasgow after-hours and Snafu: “Our friend Patty from All Night Passion reminded us about this one from The Cottage parties, down a lane in Finneston where Wrick and Lovejoy used to live. It got a fair few spins at Snafu in Aberdeen as well. Curveball.”
–Janette Thomas – Shake Your Body (House Shaker Version) [Chicago Connection Records]
Played by Chris @ Farbfernseher in Berlin: “This tune is 20 years older than our night and is still a stone cold jacker. I played this at Farbfernseher where we did parties in Berlin for a while, kicked off”
–Jimi Tenor – Take Me Baby [ZYX Music]
Played by Wrick @ Stirling Jailyard: “For a couple of summers we set up a stage outside the Stirling Jailyard in collaboration with Creative Stirling. The second part of the night literally took place inside the jail with 100 people knocking about the cells. This was a standout track in there”
–Plastikman – Slinky [m_nus]
“One of the day parties at this bar in Glasgow called The Goat, seriously over capacity, and we had installed FunctionOne stacks inside with people spilling out into the street. Eventually it was shut down by council, and we think this was the track playing when a van load of men in suits arrived to tell the owner of the bar to pull the plug.”
–The Black Madonna – Exodus [Stripped & Chewed]
Sub Club moment: “We invited Marea [TBM] to Sub Club after seeing her play Panorama Bar about four years ago now, for her first Scottish date. It was one of the warmest vibes ever. Fast forward and she’s become pretty much the most famous face around”.
–Floorplan – Let’s Ride [M-Plant]
George: “For our last ever party at Snafu in Aberdeen, on the club’s closing weekend, we had Floorplan playing. Don’t get much of a better send-off than that.”
–Greenskeepers – Low & Sweet [Classic]
“Simon Stokes used to dish this out at The Courtyard in Glasgow back in the day. Pretty silly, but a lot of fun. He wasn’t allowed to leave the building without playing it. Amanda who used to own Snafu was a big fan of Greenskeepers, so this tracks feels like a nice one to end on.”
